501(c)(3) Ruling

Q: Why doesn't St. Labre Indian School show up as a tax exempt organization on the IRS website?

A: St. Labre Indian School Educational Association receives it's 501(c)(3) tax exempt status under a group ruling for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Each entity under the group ruling for the USCCB is required to obtain and use their own tax ID number. The IRS website does not make subordinate organizations searchable on their platform. Instead, the IRS issues an annual determination letter to the USCCB confirming their tax exempt status, including all subordinate organizations contained in the USCCB Catholic Directory.

Financials

Q: Why doesn't St. Labre Indian School file a 990 with the IRS?

A: St. Labre is categorized as a religious organization/church with the IRS and is not required to file a 990. Each year, the financial activities of the organization are audited by an independent 3rd party firm. In lieu of a 990, St. Labre makes our audited financials available for viewing on our website or by request.
