Why “Buffalo Clan”?

For many Plains Indian tribes, including the Northern Cheyenne and Crow, the buffalo was seen as a sacred gift from the Creator, a relative. Through its sacrifices, it provided the essentials of life (food, clothing, lodging, tools and more) for the people. The Buffalo Clan, like its namesake, is a consistent, sustaining resource for our students, families and communities.

With poverty, addiction, and abuse a constant factor in students’ lives, St. Labre needs to be more than a school. That’s why the Buffalo Clan members choose to be more than one-time donors — they are partners. Their uninterrupted monthly support provides St. Labre with the means to plan for its future while having the critical resources and necessary programs available to build a generation free of the limitations that have held generations of Native Americans back.
