Catholic Faith
Integrating Native traditions and Catholic spirituality.
At St. Labre, our mission is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ – to love God and to love our neighbor. Rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, St. Labre is a welcoming community where students of all faiths are invited to explore and deepen their spiritual lives. We offer a variety of programs and opportunities for students to discover what they believe and find where they belong.
A unique aspect of St. Labre is the integration of Native traditions within our Catholic spirituality. During large celebrations of Catholic Mass, we have drumming in the processional and the recessional. Instead of incense, we use smudging and students dressed in full tribal regalia to bring forth the gifts and set the table at the altar.
The Catholic faith is a part of every day. St. Labre students participate in daily prayers, religion classes and attend Mass. Our Catholic leaders are available to meet our students' spiritual needs. Our Director of Mission & Ministry Integration is Catholic and reaches out to students in need, along with overseeing all aspects of our Catholic curriculum. Students take part in spiritual retreats led by our Campus Ministry team, where they have opportunities to deepen their faith.
While St. Labre is a Roman Catholic organization, our students come from many different religious backgrounds. At no time does St. Labre require children, parents or staff to convert to Catholicism, however, everyone is asked to be respectful of the teachings of the faith and attend Masses designated for students and/or staff during school hours. St. Labre welcomes all children and provides the opportunity to feed the spirit as well as the mind.
