News — Socks for Soldiers Drive

For Catholic Schools Week, St. Labre students are doing something a little different, but a lot important. The Socks for Soldiers Drive is a service designed with more than just socks in mind. The children of St. Labre are collecting new children’s socks to send to Marcus McGill, former middle school teacher and St. Labre employee now stationed in Afghanistan. His plans for the socks involve creating a stronger bond between the children of Afghanistan and the US soldiers protecting them.

In an effort to better the relationship held between soldiers and Afghani children, McGill had the idea to gather new socks, as well as any school supplies possible – needed items for Afghani children – and distribute them to US soldiers who will then distribute to the children. In this effort to better the lives of Afghani children, the lives of soldiers are made safer as they gain trust within the Afghan community.
