Youth & Family Counseling St. Labre Youth & Family Services provides social work and counseling services to our students and families here on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Being a rural community in Eastern Montana, it is difficult to obtain therapeutic assistance from other sources for many of our families. Our goal is to provide an environment where people can share emotions, experiences, learn new skills, and gain insight into the behaviors that they present that will allow them to increase their quality of life. This program provides services to families, single parents and youth. We recognize the importance of self-determination in the counseling process and use an educational approach to inform the people we work with in-order to empower them to make good choices for themselves. Family, individual, and group therapy sessions are facilitated. Crisis intervention is provided to those needing help. The social worker uses a relationship approach when working with people we serve; believing that the relationship between the counselor and the client is the catalyst for change and growth. This approach also extends to the community. Through relationships, we can assess what the needs are of the community and work with other agencies to meet their needs. We do this by connecting with people and agencies. Daily we face the challenges of helping people. The social conditions in the area are challenging at best. High unemployment. Substance Abuse. Violence. Child Abuse and Neglect. We need your continued support to make a difference. Together we can do more. Tall Whiteman Youth and Eagle's Nest Group Homes The Tall Whiteman Youth and Eagle's Nest Group Homes are designed to provide a positive, safe, and healthy environment for youth who otherwise would not have a home. The program was developed to allow youth a place to grow and learn about themselves, their culture, where they come from and who and what they want to be. It is our goal that our youth are provided with the resources and the moral support to achieve success through graduation from high school and beyond. Youth in the home are Indian children who do not have a home. The home is staffed by dedicated house parents who provide for the daily needs of the children. Education and learning are strongly emphasized. Not only do the students learn from school, they learn from others in the community and from activities we provide to the children like the horsemanship program. Recreational activities are provided as a way for the youth to learn about their surrounding communities, learn about themselves, and role model more positive ways to spend their free time. Living in rural Montana, the area provides a wealth of opportunities for recreational activities for young children. We can go fishing, canoeing in the river, mountain biking, hiking in the hills or go to Pow-wows. With your continued support we will continue to provide this wonderful home for children who need a place to live. We are completely funded by those of you who care about making a positive difference in the lives of our Indian youth. Together we can do more to provide these youth with a positive, safe place to grow-up. We sincerely thank you for your support. Outreach As we have said before the needs of the area are great. With some of the highest rates of unemployment, abuse and neglect, and substance abuse there are many who need help. We have grandmothers in the area raising up to 7 or 8 grandchildren. We have people who are hungry because they do not have food to eat. We have elders who need help to make ends meet. Our Outreach program is an emergency assistance program to help people in a time of need. We also help with bus tickets for people going to or from drug/ alcohol treatment; we provide emergency medical financial assistance to families when they have to take their child to a distant hospital for treatment or surgery; we provide funeral assistance to families to help when a loved one is lost and there is no money to pay for expenses. We cannot be everything to everybody, but we help where we can. Together we can do more. We are a Catholic/Christian organization making a difference in a challenging place. We appreciate your continued support. Thank you. |
